Marches régimentaires

The Royal Artillery Quick March a été établie comme marche régimentaire de l'Artillerie Royale en 1983 comme marche des défilés à pied. Elle est composée d'une arrangement de "The British Grenadier" et de "The Voice of the Guns". Nous présentons ici "The British Grenadier".

La chanson des « British Grenadiers » remonte à 1779, mais l'air, lui, est encore plus ancien. Cette marche faisait partie du répertoire de la Royal Artillery de la première moitié du XIX^ème siècle avec « The Artillery Grenadiers », « Geary Owen », « I'm Ninety Five » et « Highland Laddie ». En 1855, cependant, « British Grenadiers » était consacré par l'usage comme marche régimentaire au pas cadencé.

« The Royal Artillery Slow March » est une marche qui fut composée, ou arrangée pour le Royal Regiment of Artillery en 1836 par Son Altesse Royale la duchesse de Kent, mère de la reine Victoria. Étant donné son origine royale, cette pièce a toujours été particulièrement appréciée des artilleurs. Néanmoins, ce n'est que depuis 1909 qu'elle sert à identifier l'Artillerie et on a commencé à la jouer comme pièce d'introduction dans les soirées ouvertes aux invités qu'en 1921. Aujourd'hui encore, elle demeure la principale pièce interprétée à l'occasion des soirées données par l'Artillerie car ses accords entraînants reflètent bien l'âme du Régiment.

« The Royal Artillery Slow March » est jouée pour les défilés à pied, les concerts, les dîners régimentaires de toutes les unités d'artillerie. C'est la principale marche de l'Artillerie.

Les paroles sont de Sir Walter Scott. Une ancienne version existe sur cette air intitulée "Jockey's Escape to Dundee".

Bonnie Dundee est utilisée lors des défilés motorisés de la RCHA.
